I HAVE A NEW WEBSITE!

Alright, all you cats and kittens, if you’re still around and wondering what I did with my year away – MY HEALTH CRASHED! THERE WAS NO REWIND! I FOUND OUT SOME ISPs FIREWALL ALL .SPACE DOMAINS! I am preparing to drag Tin Soldier 10 years into the future, starting on APRIL 9TH!! This website will be here until my contract expires in 2024, but all the new stuff is going up at soldier-on.com! Follow me, we’re going on beyond binary! Also, I have a Tumblr now and the Patreon still works!

There was a crooked house…

…and it was full of crooked people. Some of them were really screwed up, but all of them were pretty good at at least one thing to make up for it. Sort of. Some of them could do magic, which was interesting, but not nearly as helpful as you’d think. Some of them hated each other and some of them liked each other and some of them kept to themselves, but they tried to make it work because the rent was cheap and they had nowhere else to go. Sometimes they would all even try to do something together, like make cookies or go to the theater or help a hurt person. It usually got pretty weird when they did that, but they were doing their best. Sometimes it was funny and sometimes it was sad and sometimes both at once. There was a lot of screaming in the house and sometimes breaking of things and explosions, but not a lot of meanness. They really were doing their best.

SITE NEWS

Sandcastle

This is probably the last update for a while. In practical terms, I have to give my shoulder some time to rest and I probably won’t have much to do to the site. A few things will go up that I’ve been meaning to do for a long time, and that won’t mean too much to anyone who’s not already invested in the story… Which is not that many people.

I’m going into postcard mode now, for at least a year. Like Chris may or may not have done with his raccoon photos. All chopped up and out of order in a couple systems that will serve installments randomly to whoever likes a particular tag or category. Basically, to appear relevant to anyone’s interests, I’ll have to produce crossovers with franchises people already like, and probably more stories with sex. Everyone’s going to look like an OC (pls, do not steal!), instead of people with their own arcs who inhabit their own world. Maybe that will get me an audience, and maybe it won’t.

It may come to pass that I made something just for the sake of making it and it vanishes like a sandcastle after a day at the beach.

I should be thrilled I finished a thing, but I’m not because that’s not what I wanted to make. A “fanbase” of maybe twenty people – most of whom don’t care enough to tell me they liked a thing and who will probably not follow me now that I’ve stopped posting on the news aggregator full of people who actively hate me – isn’t enough for me to justify the effort spent to myself.

So I may vanish, or end up betraying my ideals and giving the stuff I meant to give away to a corporate interest that insists on tearing it up even more and building a wall around it. Or, even worse, trying to betray my ideals and being rejected before vanishing anyway. I’m not exempt from that curse I made up about having all you care about pried away from you and dying in obscurity.

I don’t want to quit writing, but I don’t have to put up with the cost and aggravation of maintaining a site to build sandcastles.

And for those very few people who do care, I’m sure you’ll find something more stable to care about.
